Monest

Empowering users to level up their purchasing power to support sustainable brands across industries…
Monest is a digital consumer services platform that educates consumers on the sustainability and ethicality of their favorite brands across industries.
During the duration of this project, I redesigned the desktop and mobile web experience as a Product Designer & UX Researcher over the span of 5 weeks in Fall 2021. On a macro-level, I conducted user research to create problem statements, adhered to a pre-established style guide and design system, and designed lo-fi to hi-fi wireframes and prototypes on Figma. I also collaborated with our software engineers, product managers (Cara Mu and Iris Chen), and my fellow UI/UX Designer (Melanie Ogunwale) on these projects.

The Monest Truth: Users were having a difficult time navigating Monest’s mobile website and couldn’t understand Monest's services…
Consumers were having a difficult time understanding the value of Monest’s services when they first landed on our website. Users were having a difficult time navigating the mobile version of our website since the previous design process had not taken a mobile-first approach.

Redesigned Mobile Website (Landing Page + Navigation Bar)

Frequent users were frustrated by our mobile website and first-time users were confused about Monest’s mission
Primary Research & User Testing
Melanie and I conducted 15+ users interviews and surveys to understand the pain points of using the mobile website and reactions to the original landing page.
The main insights were…
How we focused on creating a more user-friendly experience for consumers…
Incorporating More Storytelling in the Landing Page
I implemented more visual cues on the landing page (Big thanks to our graphic designers for their amazing illustrations!) to keep users engaged on the screen. I used visual cues to introduce Monest’s features in tandem with copywriting that has a more conversational and casual tone; thus, allowing Monest to connect with their audience.
Melanie experimented with our brand colors to make the landing page more eye-catching.
Optimizing the Main Navigation Bar for Mobile
I implemented visual cues to allow users to easily scan the page and efficiently process the information. The “Compare” call-to-action button provides users with two ways to enter the “Comparison” page, increasing the conversion rate.
Comparison Page
To optimize the “Comparison Page” for mobile devices, I implemented a mini navigation bar on the top to provide users with easy access to the different industries Monest offers.
Results
After doing final rounds of user testing, we found that users had an easier time navigating the mobile version of Monest’s website and gained a better understanding of Monest’s mission and our services.
Learnings
It’s important to take a mobile-first approach when designing for web platforms since it can save your design team time in the future and it also helps users navigate your mobile website with ease.
The most challenging part was strategizing a way to allow users to navigate to different industries on the comparison page while keeping the page clean and user-friendly.
